Thanks for looking at the site. It is about writing, a technology I think is not becoming obsolete, despite all the gloomy predictions. There are some essays here that read like journalism, reviews of exhibitions or books. There are also some essays that are more like my own experiments, accounts of small events or situations from experience — call them “non-fiction”. And there are a few poems.
The writing of the Czech philosopher Vilém Flusser (1920-1991) has been part of my thinking since my first acquaintance with it in 2003. I have translated three of his books from German to English (translating is very close reading) and continue to work through many of his ideas, perhaps especially his understanding of writing in basic opposition to images in general and to photographs in particular.
The site is meant to be a particular kind of link to other people. I’m always really happy to know who they are and what they think. Please use the “Contact” form above. And I’d be very pleased if you wanted to subscribe!
Lambert Wiesing’s new book Ich für Mich: eine Phänomenolgie des Selbstbewusstseins, sounds difficult. And it is. But I have it on very good authority — namely his — that I did actually grasp the main idea, which is that self-awareness is an aesthetic awareness. Brilliant! This time, we won’t, we can’t get “aesthetic” mixed up with art!
