{"id":1799,"date":"2020-05-10T12:52:16","date_gmt":"2020-05-10T12:52:16","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/nancyannroth.com\/?p=1799"},"modified":"2020-05-24T18:47:27","modified_gmt":"2020-05-24T18:47:27","slug":"writing-with-robots","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/nancyannroth.com\/?p=1799","title":{"rendered":"Writing with Robots"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I seem to be learning to write again, this time with a machine reader in mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;Since the software &#8212; in my case, Boldgrid &#8212; IS an algorithm, it performs the function of a robotic acquisitions editor.&nbsp;&nbsp;It has fixed priorities, specific demands for length and pattern.&nbsp;&nbsp;It can hardly get enough repetition.&nbsp;&nbsp;For some reason I image it as a guy, a marketing guy.&nbsp;&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">I instinctively resent it.&nbsp;&nbsp;It\u2019s bossy and has the imagination of a toaster.&nbsp;&nbsp;But I&nbsp;<em>am<\/em>&nbsp;writing for algorithms.&nbsp;&nbsp;Or, to put a slightly better face on it, I\u2019m writing in cooperation&nbsp;<em>with<\/em>&nbsp;assistance from a relatively simple algorithm in the hope of making contact with another&nbsp;<em>human<\/em>&nbsp;who also cooperates with the algorithm and who may share some of my human interests and anxieties.&nbsp;&nbsp;Among those anxieties is, of course, the thought that despite the all the claims to &#8220;care about your privacy\u201d, my reader may turn out to be another algorithm.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\"><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>I seem to be learning to write again, this time with a machine reader in mind.&nbsp;&nbsp;Since the software &#8212; in my case, Boldgrid &#8212; IS an algorithm, it performs the function of a robotic&#46;&#46;&#46;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":3,"featured_media":1800,"comment_status":"closed","ping_status":"closed","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"bgseo_title":"The effect of SEO on writing style","bgseo_description":"Writing to suit the SEO software alters a writers' style, rechannels patterns of thinking and expression.
