How to See the World
Introducing a distinctly academic field to general readers is not easy. In his new book How to See the World, the eminent theorist of visual culture Nicholas Mirzoeff undertakes the task of introducing visual culture to a general audience. In a very short text, he provides a dazzling range of information. In the short review I’ve just written for Source Magazine, I give some examples of the range and currency of the information, and also confess to having had difficulty grasping just what is not visual culture, that is, the boundaries of the field.
