Experiments in Photography

Revelations: Experiments in Photography will open at the Science Museum in London on 20 March. I’m reviewing it for Source, and looking foward to seeing images I’ve liked for a very long time, such as this one of Harold Edgerton’s, as well as some surprises. After a few months with Lambert Wiesing’s book about visibility, I see this image in a rather different context, in which the camera is conceptually allied, actually functions as a “scientific” gaze, and the resulting image reveals how radically different it is from anything like “normal,” “human” vision.
